Gomeros collaboration with IBM drives innovative substation maintenance technology
March 2025
With the help of more connected assets in Ellevio's substations, Gomero is contributing to one of Sweden's largest energy companies being able to work with more digitised maintenance inspections and workflows.
A successful pilot project has transitioned into a broader implementation of an additional communication solution and equipment for standardised collection and the ability to analyse data.
– The upgrade to Gomero's latest SIPP technology gives us new opportunities to collect more data in a standardised and uniform way. With the new equipment and communication solution for data collection, the starting point to connect assets becomes significantly shorter. It also means a big difference compared to having to qualify new suppliers and solutions or carry out proof of concept projects, says Mattias Airiman, Head of Process and IT Support at Ellevio.
– Today, data analysis is an important issue and a central solution for collecting data from the field will facilitate the work and make data available via integration with our own systems for, for example, asset management (EAM), continues Mattias Airiman.
Gomero's solution for collecting more data points from substation assets and measurements gives Ellevio opportunity to optimize its maintenance work. It enables smarter monitoring and contributes to a sustainable energy infrastructure that aligns with Ellevio's vision of creating a bright and sustainable future for everyone. At the same time, it contributes to improving resource utilisation in Ellevio's daily maintenance operations.
– This aligns very much to our overall goal, where increased digitalisation contributes to us getting correct information from our assets faster and being able to act earlier when needed. We do this, among other things, by investing in modern infrastructure and driving innovation.
– A concrete example of how this helps Ellevio is that SIPP can reduce unnecessary field visits. By collecting and analysing data in our own systems, we realise opportunity to use our staff where they are most needed, continues Mattias Airiman.
Ellevio and Gomero have collaborated since 2008 and are now jointly driving the rollout of the latest SIPP technology. The goal is to begin updating the communication infrastructure at all of Ellevio's distribution stations during 2025 and then have the ability to connect more sensors where we can collect and analyse data for more efficient and sustainable maintenance work.
– Gomero's knowledge combined with responsiveness and openness have been important success factors in this work. They are reliable and deliver while also showing they are not afraid to test new paths and collaborations. That we are making this journey together means
